Mercy Masanga is a consultant specializing in energy and natural resources, deeply committed to advancing Sustainable Development Goal Number Seven (SDG7 – affordable and clean energy). She earned her Bachelor of Science in Geomatics from the University of Dar es Salaam’s College of Engineering and Technology, focusing on exploring geothermal potential zones through remotely sensed data. Her research was selected as one of the top projects for exhibition at the Tanzania Women Engineers Convention and Exhibition. Notably, she made history as the first female chairperson of her college with more than 2,600 engineering students. She leverages her exceptional public speaking and storytelling abilities, exemplified by her TEDx appearance, to advocate for sustainable development goals. She was recognized as one of the 100 Tanzania Sheroes for her significant impact on the community as a STEM ambassador, inspiring youth to pursue science-related subjects. Her contributions to energy development are further highlighted through her published newsletters and a poetry book on Amazon. Mercy has been awarded a prestigious scholarship from the Mastercard Foundation AfOx at the University of Oxford, where she will join Reuben College and pursue an MSc in Energy Systems at the Department of Engineering Science. After Oxford, Mercy aims to focus on innovations in clean energy infrastructure and systems to advance climate security.
